Personal Biography

James (Jay) Kline is a 5th-year Lighting/Electrical student with a focus on lighting design. While a Penn State student, he is also a student member of the IALD as well as the IES.

To gain experience in his field, he spent the summer of 2013 living in Manhattan, and working as a lighting design intern in Bloomnfield, NJ. While working at Illumination Arts LLC, he worked on a multitude of projects in New York, New Jersey, and Florida. Some of the tasks completed include running lighting calculations, building 3D models, integrating photoshop into presentable ideas, building mockups, attending meetings, reviewing control submittals, and teaching Revit seminars to office employees. A few project types that he was able to impact were bridges, and an educational building for the State University of New York.

During the Spring semester of 2013, he was part of a three member design team who completed the annual Howard Brandston Student Lighting Design Competition. His team was awarded honorable mention for their entry. For the second year in a row, he was awarded the IES scholarship to attend the IES conference in Huntington Beach, Ca, where his team was recognized for their achievement.

When not working on curriculum related tasks, he enjoys organizing events, filming, and editing for his YouTube video production team: Ninthreelproductions. He also has a great passion for health and fitness and spends time developing the start of his residential rendering and design business, while never neglecting some personal time to work out and cook.
